I've been training at this gym for a while now, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about teaching. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned fighter, they tailor their instruction to help you improve and grow.
The environment is welcoming and respectful no egos, just people helping each other get better. The classes are well-structured, with a strong focus on technique, conditioning, and live sparring. They offer a great mix of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,and MMA, so there’s something for everyone.
What really stands out is the sense of community. Everyone looks out for each other, and it feels like a second home. If you’re looking for a serious gym where you can train hard, learn real skills, and be part of a supportive team, this is the place to be.

After 18 years of training, jiu-jitsu I couldn’t be more proud to be able to train with Six blades in Southgate. Mike runs his dojo with care and respect and it is always looking good and clean.

Training there, you will see that the moves are top-notch and that the instructors really do care about your progress and in their students.

I will continue to come here when I get the opportunity as I know they are top-notch

Six Blades jiujitsu/jiu-jitsu club SG
3916 Tweedy Blvd, South Gate, CA . 90280
Instructor: Mike Hermosillo

Warm-Up & Conditioning
The warm-up was duration, style dynamic stretching, bodyweight, shadowboxing. It felt adequate light and intense and did a good job of preparing us for the session.

Technique Instruction
We covered techniques in striking, grappling, clinch, takedowns etc. The instructor explained clearly, sometimes too fast but very well broken down. For example, when teaching the rear-naked choke, they paused to show grip adjustment, which helped me understand leverage.

Drills & Partner Work
We worked in pairs doing pad drills, partner drills, situational sparring. The drills were structured, random, and I felt I got enough time to practice each move. Some pairs were mismatched in experience, which made some drills more useful.

Sparring / Live Work
Sparring was optional, included, limited. The instructor supervised closely and prioritized safety light contact like tapping early. The pairings were fairly balanced, though one match was much stronger than my partner, which felt overwhelming but gave me a real life experience.

Coach / Instructor
The coach was friendly, tough, strict, encouraging. He walked around, corrected technique, gave pointers, and answered questions. What I liked is that they offered both positive feedback like “good movement” and constructive tips like “adjust your foot placement here”.

Facilities / Equipment
The gym is clean, organize and always clean after every session. Mats were in good condition. They had enough pads, gloves, etc. The coaches will also advise you on which equipment is preferable for long lasting and well handling].

Class Size / Crowd
There always a great size of students. The mix was beginners, well train, mostly advanced. The class size felt comfortable, considerate, and friendly. Which didn't affected how much personal attention I got.

What I Learned / Gains
By the end, I feel more confident in a technique or concept. My endurance was tested. I also realized my weakness clinch defense and bottom game grappling needs more work.

Pros & Cons / Suggestions
What I liked: clear instruction, safe environment, encouraging coach, variety of techniques.
What could improve: pacing was a bit fast for absolute beginners; But coaches and advanced students will adjust and correct posture, style, etc. When partner mismatch there more time for individualized corrections.

Overall Impression / Recommendation
I would recommend this class to beginners / intermediate / all levels, especially if you’re looking for a balanced MMA introduction. I’ll likely return to work more on area you want to improve.

The academy also hosts open matt, Friday night and Sunday mornings sparring. And when ready to take it to the next level they will guide you to the right competitions.

Artemis Academy is a great family oriented and friendly place to attend. Coach Mike which is the main instructor is very attentive and dedicated coach that helps each student needs to learn and achieve each ones goal in class. Each instructor at Artemis Academy are willing to help instruct and perfect each move you learn every week. The Academy is a great place to learn techniques that can help you defend yourself if ever needed out in the streets but also becomes a fun and awesome journey when you perfect your moves and level up in your technique. My kids and I attend the academy and it has been one of the greatest decision that I have made for my kids and I. Our physical health has improved, our overall mental health is stronger and most important it has became a great family activity. There hours are great so your kids can attend and also there adult class hours are awesome for those who have a busy schedule with late class hours. I highly recommend Artemis Academy to everyone it will change your life and its never to late to start!
